Konkan Trails

Leave the congested highways behind and trace India’s untamed western shoreline. Konkan Trails – Evergreen Edge is a curated road expedition through the rain-washed corridors of the Konkan coast. Designed for any car or SUV, this journey strings together canopy-covered forest roads, empty coastal headlands, and forgotten maritime towns where the rhythmic swell of the Arabian Sea sets the daily pace.

The Story

Where the deep forest meets the roaring ocean.

North of Goa, the character shifts. The coastline turns wilder and quieter — Sindhudurg Fort rising from the sea near Malvan, Kunkeshwar Temple perched at land’s end, and long stretches where the road narrows to a single lane between paddy fields and cashew groves. The coastal cliffs along the Aare-Ware Beach Road that turn every drive into a lookout point.

The Konkan journey ends, fittingly, at Ganpatipule — a temple town where the ocean meets an ancient shrine, and the road simply runs out at the sand. Then start of the return drive either Via Kolhapur – Bangalore or Via Goa-Mangalore.

Journey Highlights
  • Dramatic cliff-top ocean views along the Aare Ware Beach Road and the coastal stretch from Ganpatipule to Ratnagiri
  • Sindhudurg Fort rising from the sea, Kunkeshwar Temple at land's end, and Ganpatipule's ancient shoreline shrine — paired with fresh Konkan seafood at every stop
  • A mostly reliable NH66 highway, with narrower, more characterful roads inland — best driven October to March, or during the lush but livelier monsoon months

Before the Road

Frequently
asked questions.

A few practical notes about Konkan Trails. If you have a question that is not answered here, send us a journey enquiry.

Is this route suitable for first-time self-drive travellers?

Yes — this journey is rated Easy to Moderate. The NH66 highway is well-maintained for most of the drive, with only a few narrow internal roads requiring careful, unhurried driving.

What's the best time of year for this drive?

October to March offers the most pleasant weather for coastal driving. The monsoon months (June–September) bring dramatically lush greenery, but also heavier traffic and wetter road conditions.

Do I need an SUV or 4x4?

Any vehicle can comfortably complete the core route. An SUV is recommended only if you plan optional detours to more secluded beaches or rugged coastal trails.

Will digital payments work throughout the route?

Carrying some cash is recommended — smaller towns and remote coastal stretches can have inconsistent digital payment acceptance.

Is mobile network reliable along the way?

Coverage can be intermittent in forested and coastal stretches. We recommend downloading offline maps before setting out.

Where will I be staying?

Curated, tried-and-tested stays along the route — including beachfront comfort in Ganpatipule, classic coastal hospitality in Ratnagiri, and a heritage stay at Sawantwadi Palace.
